Abstract - Zusammenfassung

The urban bat8 of 24 middleeuropean species of bats can be characterized as typical inhabitants of towns respectively as "urban bats". The comparison of the results on the occurrence of bats in 24 towns show that the Common pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus), Serotine (Eptesicus serotinus), Grey long-eared bat (Plecotus austriacus), Common long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus), Daubenton´s bat (Myotis daubentoni), Noctule (Nyctalus noctula), Parti-coloured bat (Vespertilio murinus) and Nathusius´ pipistrelle (Pipistrellus nathusii) can be found very often in towns. They are stronger bound to the urban habitat then the other 13 in towns rarely founded species and could be called synanthropic. This finding is verified through the description of their relative frequencies and their using of urban habitats in strongly builded townareas and parks. Because of their preference of crevices in buildings as roosts partly throughout the year and for open, light parklike feeding sites, they are well adapted to the town.

Beside of bat species that settle Middleeurope incidental only forestbats belong to the rare animals in towns. Their demands an forests as feeding sites and treeholes as favored roosts won´t be fulfilled in towns. Large forestareas and areas rich in tree holes are exceptional in urban forests and parks.

Human affected factors, that cause speciesinventory and abundance of bats in towns, are on one hand the availability of roosts and on the other hand the feeding sites. Both must according to the mobility of the animals be connected spatially, so the bats are able to use them.

Conservation on urban bats can be carried out by the preservation of roosts in buildings. For the other species of bats bat conservation in towns won´t be succesfull without a strong change in urban structures as a whole, because of the greatly differing ecological demands of theese animals.
